where i’m from

I am from young love, a family that never sent me to daycare, and parents who do whatever they can to protect me. I’m from paternal relatives who grew up in an orphanage, and maternal relatives who escaped Auschwitz. I am from a small town that wasn’t my first home, and a place where the first question people ask was, “What church do you go to?” when my family didn’t go to church. I am from gravel roads, CD Walkmans, and memorizing every lyric of the “8 Mile” soundtrack. I am from entering college when Facebook just started. I am from eating disorder recovery, substance abuse recovery, and a complicated relationship with my body. I am from loss through suicide. I’m from staying single for nearly a decade of my adult life, to learning how to love me enough to want to create meaningful partnership. I’m from leaving a corporate career, to taking on the studio manager role at Up Yoga. I’m from decades of psychotherapy, years of yogic practices, endless hours of self-reflection, and Vipassana mediation. I’m from joy generated through community, connection, growth, holding space for others, and sharing the things that light me up. I am from learning handstand in my 30’s. I’m from unlearning the idea that I’m the risk, to discovering I’m the reward.

I’ve taken hundreds of hours of trainings mostly rooted in Power Vinyasa, along with Yin and Awakening Yoga. I co-facilitate our Empowerment Program/200hr Teacher Training with Lindsay.
